Lesson 1:
Mind Mapping
A vintage roadmap of Cincinnati was divided among students in the class to draw their self-portraits. Students then collaborated to re-assemble the map, uniting different faces and artistic styles, as members of a single community.
Lesson 2:
Memory Captures
Students learned about the history and process of photography, experimenting with cyanotype solution, light, and found objects to create various compositions.
Lesson 3:
Heritage Tiles
Students learned about the artistic history of Cincinnati, creating Rookwood Pottery Company inspired heritage tiles.
Lesson 4-6:
Myths, Monsters,
Parchment & Prints
Students learned about the European Middle Ages and the Renaissance through medieval manuscripts, the invention of the printing press, and traditional bookmaking. Each student then integrated illustration and printmaking to create a medieval-inspired illuminated page, contributing to a class book about contemporary creatures (mythical and real) found in our own state of Ohio.
