A family is the foundation of society. It is here where they learn about values, social, and emotional skills, security, and a sense of belonging. A family is a vital part of a child’s life, therefore, it should be celebrated. Through artmaking students can explore, discover, and express many things that make their family unique and special. By doing this, I hope students can be proud of their family.

Lesson 1:

My Zentangle Family

Students drew and colored pictures of their families on a zentangle background.

Lesson 2:

My Family Pet

Students used assorted tissue papers to create colorful, Eric Carle inspired portrait collages of their family pet or an imaginary one.

Lesson 3:

Home Sweet Home

Students put on their hardhats and built their family home from brown paper bags and construction paper.

Lesson 4:

Family Tree

Students used tree branches to create a family tree

Week 5:

What’s for Dinner?

Students cooked-up their favorite family meals with air dry modeling clay.

Lesson 6:

Family Flag

Students create a flag to represent the qualities that make their family special.
