Ms. Maddie's Class

“The world always seems brighter when you’ve just made something that wasn’t there before.” – Neil Gaiman Through art-making, one is able to not only gain artistic skills and knowledge, but build up their own voice and individuality. The goal within my studio is to teach each student different forms of art, then provide them with the space to grow in their own identity and interests within these new skills. Students' work will each be uniquely individual to them because each student possesses different interests, preferences, and backgrounds.

Week 1:

Ancient Artifacts

Students learned about ancient arts and artifacts by sculpting pinch pots and decorating them with painted patterns.

Lesson 2:

Radial Paper Relief Sculptures

Students learned about radial symmetry and basic origami paper folding to create paper relief sculptures.

Lesson 4-5:

Weaving

Students learned about the art of weaving and how it was used in history to produce textiles and fabrics. Students practiced basic weaving and created their own textiles using a variety of colorful yarn.

Lesson 6:

Zines

Students wrote, drew, and folded their own Zine. Zines, (short for magazine or fanzine) are small handmade books with specific curated content. Many zines are made from a single sheet of paper.
